The Collaboration Between Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp
The partnership between Harley-Davidson and Hero MotoCorp resulted in the creation of the Harley-Davidson X440, a small-displacement road bike specifically designed for the Indian market. While the X440 has not been introduced in any other markets yet, it has gained global attention as Harley-Davidson's first venture into the entry-level segment and the only modern single-cylinder model to feature the Bar and Shield emblem.
Hero MotoCorp, a major motorcycle manufacturer in India, was responsible for developing and producing the X440. With expertise in producing workhorse and commuter models with single-cylinder engines, Hero was well-equipped to design the X440, which quickly became popular upon its release.
Following the launch of a model in a strategic partnership, it is common to see a similar model branded by the other party. This trend has been observed with other collaborations like BMW and TVS, as well as KTM and CFMoto. Similarly, Hero MotoCorp introduced the Mavrick 440 on January 23, 2024, as its version of the Harley-Davidson X440.
The Hero Mavrick 440
The Mavrick 440, based on the same technical platform as the X440, features a different styling approach by Hero. While the Harley X440 embraces retro styling reminiscent of the Sportster, the Mavrick 440 combines sporty elements with neo-retro design, drawing inspiration from scrambler and cafe-racer styles.
Equipped with a TorqX 440cc single-cylinder engine producing 27 horsepower and 26.5 pound-feet of torque, the Mavrick 440 offers a punchy performance suitable for Indian roads. The bike's design and engine configuration prioritize ease of use and fuel efficiency, making it ideal for cruising and city riding.
