An Extremely Rare 1938 Brough Superior SS100 to be Auctioned
An extremely rare 1938 Brough Superior SS100 is set to be auctioned at the NEC Classic Motor Show Sale in the UK in November 2023. These meticulously crafted motorcycles were known as the "Rolls Royce of motorcycles" during their production period. The SS100 model, named after its ability to reach speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, featured an overhead valve engine. In comparison, the SS80 model utilized side-valve engines and were road-tested to 80 mph.
This particular 1938 Brough Superior SS100 is highly regarded within the Brough community and comes with a complete history and documentation dating back to 1954. The current owner has possessed it since 2018. Restored by renowned Brough restorer Tony Cripps in 2010, this motorcycle is considered to be in excellent condition according to the auction house.
The 1938 Brough Superior SS100 is equipped with a Matchless 990cc OHV engine. Only 102 Matchless Broughs were ever produced, with just 34 featuring sprung frames, including this one. As of 2023, only 25 of these motorcycles are known to still exist.
Original factory equipment on this 1938 Brough Superior SS100 includes a Norton four-speed gearbox, Castle forks, and a twin-float carburetor. The auction winner will also receive additional items such as the original fuel tank (not currently fitted), restoration photos and details, historical photos and documentation, RF60 log books, two old MOTs, tax discs, and various vintage paperwork.
In recent years, this motorcycle has won multiple awards at shows, including the Best MX SS100 at the Brough Rally on two occasions. It has also been awarded the Best Ridden to Show title at the Brough Rally and the Best Bike award at the VMCC Rally twice. As a functioning motorcycle, it is currently registered in the UK with a V5C.
The NEC Classic Motor Show Sale 2023, organized by Iconic Auctioneers, will be held at the NEC Birmingham from November 10 to 12, 2023. The auction for this bike will take place on November 12, 2023, at 1 p.m. Greenwich Mean Time.
The estimated price range for this motorcycle is between £240,000 and £260,000, which is equivalent to $301,652 and $326,790 in US dollars as of September 5, 2023. Please note that these prices do not include a 12.5 percent buyers' premium or value added tax (VAT).
