British Electric Motorcycle Startup Maeving Opens Preorders for Faster and More Powerful Model

In March 2023, Maeving, a British electric motorcycle startup, announced its plans to bring its bikes to the US in late 2023 or early 2024. The company's first bike, the RM1, featured a stylish flat-tracker design and a top speed of 45 mph with 80 miles of range per charge, making it suitable for city riding.

On August 31, 2023, Maeving officially opened preorders for its second model, the RM1S, which is faster and more powerful. Currently, preorders are only available for UK customers. However, Cycle World suggests that the RM1S should be the model used to launch the brand in the US due to its increased speed and power.

The RM1S shares the same recognizable design language as the Maeving R1M and is available in 11 different color options. It has a claimed top speed of 65 mph, making it a better option for a wider range of riders.

The battery range of the RM1S is "up to 80 miles," according to the company. Additionally, the RM1S offers two charging options, while the slower RM1 only supports one. Both models allow riders to remove the batteries for charging, but only the RM1S allows riders to charge the bike directly.

In the UK, the RM1S is compatible with compulsory basic training (CBT) and is suitable for new riders. It features a 7-kilowatt motor with a claimed peak power of 10.5 kW.

The preorder price for the RM1S in the UK is £7,495, equivalent to $9,436 US as of September 1, 2023. However, pricing in one market may not reflect pricing in other markets, as manufacturers' calculations are not simple conversions.

Maeving's US distribution plans have not been announced yet. Other electric startups, such as Ubco and Cake, initially sold directly to US consumers through their websites before expanding to brick-and-mortar stores and showrooms.

With its roots in former Triumph employees, Maeving's stylish bikes are expected to attract fans in the US. However, the true test will be the riding experience and customer service. The future plans of Maeving are eagerly awaited.
